Review: The Keg Steakhouse

April 3rd, 2010 | 2 Comments | Posted in Restaurants

This was my first visit to the city and after a long and tiresome day, my friend and I were really hungry. So we decided to go to some of the local restaurants. As we walked along the street, we spotted several restaurants but they did not appeal to us. We wanted a place that could offer us excellent service as well as quality food and great ambiance.

Peaceful Atmosphere

Finally we found Keg. The first thing we noticed when we entered is the peaceful atmosphere that allows guests to have their meals in a warm and nice ambiance. The Keg Steakhouse and Bar has an organized and well spaced out seating arrangement that provides you the privacy you need. Another thing we noticed was the restaurant’s quality and comfortable chairs and since we were really tired from the day’s activities, we needed a nice place to relax and enjoy our meal.

Great Food

We were fortunate to find a couple of seats empty, so it took less than a minute before we could be directed to our table. The staffs at the restaurant are highly professional and know how to treat their customers. I had not decided on what to eat, so I asked for expert opinion from one of the gorgeous waitresses who recommended one of their best steak dishes; the Keg Prime Rib Classic. To speak the truth, that was the best steak I had eaten for quite a while. Unlike other restaurants I had visited some time back, the chef at the Keg Steakhouse knows how to properly use seasonings when preparing food. Not too much, and not too less- the perfect balance. When eating their steak you will enjoy the seasonings used and at the same time enjoy the natural properties of the food.

Customer service

The management of Keg Steakhouse caters for the needs of each of its clients. Although I am not allergic to any food, I discovered that you can have a special diet prepared just for you. If you are allergic to any food, all you need to do is to talk with the kitchen operations manager, who will take you through a list of possible food choices. Furthermore, you will be able to check the ingredients that are used in their menu.

Summary

If you are looking for a nice and comfy place to have dinner, whether on your own or with a couple of your friends, Keg Steakhouse is the place to be.

Review: Andy’s Pool Hall

February 14th, 2010 | 4 Comments | Posted in Bars, Lounges, Clubs

Last night (Friday) I was invited to Andy’s Pool Hall for a friends birthday. Figured that I might as well take a few minutes out of the night to observe and report! The following is a review of the Andy Warhol inspired bar/club.

Business Name: Andy’s Pool Hall

Andy's Pool Hall

Services:
Not bad, I mean, what can this really be based on? The bartenders serve you just as they would at most bars. So lets just move on to the next point.

Quality of Service/Product:
In terms of their mixing abilities they’re on par with where they should be, nothing special here.

Atmosphere:
In terms of atmosphere the place isn’t bad either; good use of space, furniture throughout, and a 4 table pool hall in the back. Price per hour for renting the tables is $12.00 – which is pretty good considering its a club type environment and clubs love to gouge people whenever they can.

The crowd is primarily young it seems, questionably young. If everyone was in fact of age they certainly were ranging 19-25, with the occasional older club-goer (as usual). To be completely honest it wasn’t the most attractive crowd, maybe it was just that night in particular but with absolutely no dress code and some fairly plump people it wasn’t very pleasing to the eye.

Summary:
Looking for a college dive with some decent music (mostly top 40 type), a bunch of less than attractive young people and $5 cover after 11pm – go to Andy’s Pool Hall. Don’t forget that you can leave your tie and jacket at home – it’s all about the Sneakers and baseball caps.

Review: LunarPages.com

January 29th, 2010 | 1 Comment | Posted in Internet Businesses

Alright so here we have Lunarpages.com, an up and coming web hosting company that has been in the industry for a few years but is really starting to look like they’re taking off…. to the “moon”, hahaha…… you know you love it!

Business Name: LunarPages
Industry: Web Hosting Company
Website: www.Lunarpages.com
Reviewed by: James Manuel (LinkXS.com)

This review = 3 segments. The first being a review of their services, the second being a review of the quality of their service, and thirdly of their customer service. Strap in tightly! cause here we go!

Services:
Good good good. NEXT! no but seariously, they’re services are spot-on; they boast pretty solid prices vs big name competitors such as GoDaddy, 1and1 (who we’ll be reviewing shortly).

Their services are pretty standard for a host; shared, reseller, dedicated servers and web design through their affiliates/partners. They’re running on both Windows and Linux OS, but only Linux for their shared accounts it seems – which is fine by me! Linux and CentOS are probably the best hosting platform OS around.

Quality of Service:
Pretty solid! Nill downtime, very comprehensive control panel and not too comprehensive that techies such as myself get frustrated because they tried to make it extremely user friendly. I absolutely hate when companies create control panels trying to make them VERY easy to use for the average idiot, and in doing so made it difficult as hell for non-technically challenged people – for example, I find GoDaddy’s control panel to be about as easy as flying a jet blindfolded through the Grand Canyon.

What’s somewhat annoying about their services is that you can’t upgrade small area’s of your packages. For example if you wanted a basic plan but with twice (2x) as many email accounts they won’t have it! You need to actually upgrade to the business plan, which has a load of features you don’t even need – I JUST want the extra emails and that’s it!

Customer Service:
Ahhh customer service, the absolute foundation of any web hosting company; without this you might as well close up shop and start selling hotdogs on the street – to any of you up and coming web hosting providers. I do find their customer service to be very helpful and completely flexible, although the one problem I had was their responsiveness. I’m VERY particular about quick responsiveness and it seems it would take them an average of about 5-8 hours to respond to any ticket I submited, and often more. I think if you have a ticketing system you should respond within the hour, but that’s just me!

Aside from their ticketing system I’m actually not too impressed with their plan-based customer support. For example if you have the basic level plan you don’t get phone support. I know some companies do this, and I think its discusting, I mean I understand incentive to upgrade but if you’re going to do this then at LEAST provide timely ticket support responses. Its like they’re basically running an internet hosting Titanic, where half of their customers are sitting in the lower levels getting sub-par support, while their first class customers are laughing it up sipping champaign. Oh well, I guess that’s how the world works!

Summary:
Good service (9/10), pretty good customer support (7.5/10), very good affiliate program (10/10). So give them a try and let us know what your experience was like – I’m sure it will be a good one!

Review: 2Checkout.com

January 27th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Internet Businesses

First of all let me introduce myself. I see Mark previously didnt do so and it’s quite rude I must say! geez. My name is Adam Evans, I’m the Managing Director of LinkXS.com and C.E.O of Evolve Thought | Media Group. I work along side a team of consumers, editors and content writers to bring you this unbias (as much as possible!) business review website.

SO lets get the ball rollin’!

Business Name: 2CO (2Checkout.com)

2Checkout.com

I’ll also be breaking this review into 3 segments (surprised?). The first being a review of their services, the second being a review of the quality of their service, and thirdly of their customer service. So lets get going!

Services:
These guys are basically big players in the resale of tangible or digital products accross the fabulous world we call the internet. When I say big fish I mean over 1.6 million products type of big, so what’s that like? a mid sized whale?… hmm… ok I’m getting off topic here, back to it! They offer an online shop which vendors may have their products listed in addition to their own websites. Basically if you are purchasing an eBook or a Car Stereo you may end up checking out through 2CO – much like you would with the wider known Amazon.

Quality of Service:
From what I gather it looks good! They have a clean easy to use website, trust worthy name, google page rank and HTTPS secure checkouts up the ying yang. I have personally used their service without concern or a sweat.

Customer Service:
Here’s where I must say I was pleased. Recently there was some confusion (perhaps on my part) with checking out through an affiliate companies online store. Needless to say there was a double charge made through 2CO and get this…. ready for it?….. It was resolved within a couple hours! One of the charges was almost immediately refunded. No 3-5 day wait time with a ticketing and billing system and blah blah blah. Their customer service opened one of those scary tickets which often take years to close, and actually did something about it.

I find Paypal and may other companies often sit on their hands while spinning in their office chairs seeing who can get the “mostest dizziest” rather than solving my problems, but these guys were spot on proper.

Summary:
If you guys at 2CO are reading this; and I know you will because you’re going to hear from us… Give yourselves a virtual pat on the back, or facebook poke, or whatever you call it. Great customer experience on my end and based on that I can only assume your vendor experience is just as enjoyable.

Review: BHS Web Design

January 27th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Internet Businesses

Alright so we got ourselves another web design company in Toronto, ON Canada.

Business Name: BHS Web Design

As usual we will break our review into 3 segments. The first being a review of their services, the second being a review of the quality of their work, and thirdly of their customer service. So lets get going!

Services:
Looking at their website the first impression you get is “not another web biz” but I’m afraid its in fact much more than that my little ducklings, BHS Web Design is quite the little business I must say. Their portfolio looks solid and their responsiveness was impressive; what else could you ask for from a web designer anyways?

Quality of Work:
Just look at what they’re showing! Its some good stuff. No skimping on the design style and very clean professional stuff.

Customer Service:
We at LinkXS.com tend to dabble in some undercover work and investigate the client interation with various companies. I gotta say that these guys held it together nicely; they got back to me within an hour! Answering all my questions (as stupid as they were) without any issue.

Summary:
I would personally recommend getting at least a quote from these guys. I’m not 100% on their programming abilities because their portfolio only showed me some visuals, but on the whole they seem pretty solid. Additionally their website appears to have a reletively trust worthy PR and that’s always good in my books. But don’t take my word for it – Give them a try and report back to us with your feedback – as always we’d be more than happy to do a follow up to this review.

Review: Evolve Thought | Media Group

September 29th, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in Marketing

Firstly we will be reviewing an advertising and marketing company located in Toronto, ON Canada. I’m going to try and do this as unbias as possible, which may be difficult because the big boss man actually owns this company. But hopefully I won’t need to say anything too bad ;)

Business Name: Evolve Thought | Media Group
Industry: Advertising, Marketing, Website Design
Website: www.ThoughtMedia.com
Reviewed by: Mark Stevens (LinkXS.com)

We break most of our reviews into 3 segments. The first being a review of their services, the second being a review of the quality of their work, and thirdly of their customer service. So lets get going!

Services:
At first glance it appears that these guys are primarily doing web site design, but that’s definitely a misconception. Evolve Thought | Media Group is actually a full service advertising and marketing company that covers everything from your website to street level promotions throughout Toronto.

I haven’t had a chance to request a quote on anything so I can’t comment on pricing, however I see there’s a couple packages listed on their website for Online Marketing (SEO), Email Marketing, and Website Design; all of which appears to be reasonably priced.

Quality of Work:
This goes without saying. I mean look at their stuff! It’s precise and spot on with how internet websites should be made; clear, easy to read and navigate as well as quick loading. I’m so sick of seeing these so called “web design” or “internet companies” that pop out some ugly projects and claim to be design experts. If you’re looking to hire some kid in his basement or some random overseas freelancer then best of luck to you because your website will either take years to create or end up looking like something that fell off the back of a garbage truck.

As for their other services I’m afraid I can’t write a proper review on them simply because I haven’t had any street team promotions or email marketing done and I certainly cannot see the results of their work in those areas.

Customer Service:
Part of what we do at LinkXS.com is make anonymous phone calls pretending to either be existing customers or new potential customers. As a result of this we get first hand experience in how different companies approach their sales and support.

With that said I must say that I was impressed with the level of patience their customer service rep had (at least the one I spoke with in particular). I mean, if I was him and had a call from someone that didn’t even know what “an email” was, I would be pretty reluctant to offer any sort of assistance. BUT low and behold Chris (the rep) was calm, collected and patient with me as he explained what an email is and helped me understand what it is that they are offering (service-wise).

Summary:
In closing I would recommend getting at least a quote from these guys. If their prices are industry standard or even slightly less then its definately worth it. I may even pay a bit more just for the level of quality that comes with their work. As for their offline advertising/marketing stuff, give it a try and report back to us with your feedback – we’d be more than happy to do a follow up to this review.
